Horst Schön (diplomat)

Horst Schön (born September 22, 1931 ; † June 11, 1986 ) was a German diplomat . He was ambassador of the GDR in the People's Republic of Angola and in the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe .

Life

Schön attended high school and graduated from high school . He then worked as a miner. From 1951 to 1955 he studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . He completed his studies with a law degree.

From 1955 he was an employee of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA), initially in its legal department. From 1964 to 1970 he was counselor in Warsaw . Subsequently, he was deputy head from 1971 and 1972/1973 head of the 2nd European department (neighboring countries) and from 1973 to 1975 head of the 3rd European department ( Southeast Europe ) in the MfAA. From 1975 to 1978 he headed the Department of Cultural Foreign Relations at the MfAA. From 1978 to 1981 he was the GDR's ambassador in Luanda and from 1979 to 1981 second accredited in São Tomé and Príncipe. From 1980 he acted as sector manager of the Far East department , from 1983 to 1986 as deputy head of the Southeast Europe department at the MfAA.

Schön was a member of the SED . He was buried in the central cemetery in Friedrichsfelde .
