Hostalric is an inland Catalan village, and belongs to La Selva in the province of Girona . After Girona is about 40, according to Barcelona about 60 kilometers.
Attractions
The village consists of an upper and a lower part of the village. The two village centers are separated by a village square. The lower village center is the actual old town with original medieval building facades. Hostalric has city walls which date from the 14th century.
The 33 meter high and three storey Torre dels Frares (literally translated: "Tower of the Monks"), which takes its name from a former monastery nearby, was used to defend the village. During the Napoleonic War , the French occupied the tower in 1810. To prevent the Spaniards from using it again, they eventually destroyed it. After almost 200 years, the tower was rebuilt.
The more modern buildings are located in the upper part of the village towards Schlossberg. Construction has been going on here for several years. There is a view of the village and the region from El Castell (castle hill).
Events
On the first weekend in July, Hostalric celebrates its big party. The festival program includes sardanas, sports competitions, fire running, night dancing in the open air and other events.
