Howie man

Howie man (* 4. August 1927 in New York City ; † 25. September 2001 in Hicksville , New York ) was an American jazz - drummer , bandleader and music teacher.

Live and act

Mann began his musical career in local New York bands. During World War II he played in Army Band 392 Unit at Camp Lee, Virginia . After his discharge from the army, he toured with the big bands of Elliot Lawrence , Hal McIntyre and the Dorsey Brothers . He also directed his own formation, appearing in shows with Nat King Cole , Mel Tormé , Eydie Gormé and Steve Lawrence . In 1952 he gave up touring in favor of his family and played in the New York Jets Stage Band , which performed at Shea Stadium for 14 years . He then worked with his Howie Mann Big Band in New York City and Long Island for 24 years . a. played in schools as part of the Jazz Nexus concert series . He also taught in his Hicksville drum studio ; Jim Chapin and Rich Holly were among his students . In the field of jazz he was involved in 24 recording sessions between 1946 and 1956. a. with Tony Fruscella (1952), Phil Urso (1953) and Bobby Scott (1956).
