Coleman Collins (born July 22, 1986 in Princeton , New Jersey ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Burns played as a professional mainly in Europe, including three seasons in the German basketball league for the Württemberg first division clubs EnBW Ludwigsburg and ratiopharm Ulm. In 2012 he won the double from the Bosnian championship and cup competition with HKK Široki . Collins reports on his experiences in different countries as a columnist in online portals , especially in the sports news network ESPN .

Career

Collins went to school in Georgia and in 2003 to study at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University , where he played for the college team Hokies in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In the final year of his college career in 2007, the Hokies were able to qualify for the national NCAA finals for the first time after an eleven-year absence . After a victory over the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois , they lost in the second round against the Salukis of Southern Illinois University Carbondale . Coleman scored over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his four-year NCAA career with an average of 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 109 games.

In 2007, Collins began a professional career in the 2007/08 basketball division for the German first division club from Ludwigsburg . The team, in the previous year still runner-up in the main round and play-off semi- finals, clearly missed participation in the play-offs for the championship in 13th place in the table. In the German cup competition they reached the final in the Top Four competition, but it was lost to the Artland Dragons . Then Collins returned to his home country and played in the NBA Development League (D-League) for the Mad Ants from Fort Wayne . At the Mad Ants, however, there was no way for Collins to recommend himself for a contract in the highest endowed professional league NBA , where he achieved statistics similar to those in the NCAA. For the following season he returned to Germany and played for ratiopharm from Ulm . In the basketball Bundesliga 2009/10 , he replaced the top rebounder Jeff Gibbs , who had migrated to league rivals Eisbären Bremerhaven , and similar to Ludwigsburg, the Ulm team missed after a successful pre-season when they were first promoted to play-offs had qualified to take part in the final round of the championship in 13th place in the table. Also in the basketball Bundesliga 2010/11 one could not improve and ended up on the 14th place in the final table.

For the 2011/12 season, Collins got a contract with the club from Široki Brijeg in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The team was able to successfully defend its double win from the previous year and won the fourth Bosnian championship in a row for the Croatian club from Herzegovina . In the ABA league , however, they missed participation in the " Final Four " tournament in fifth place . In the 2012/13 season, Collins then played in the French LNB Pro A for Chorale Basket from Roanne . The team was eliminated as fifth in the main round table in the first play-off round for the championship against defending champion Élan Chalon . For the 2013/14 season Collins signed a contract with the Ukrainian runner-up BK Azovmash from Mariupol in the Basketball Superliga Ukraine . As a result of the change of government, at the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 , Collins agreed on March 1 to terminate his contract and then played in Bahrain for the club from the capital Manama , with whom he won the national championship. In the 2014/15 season, Collins played again in France for the BCM Gravelines club from Dunkirk on the English Channel . At the end of the season, the team again failed to make it into the play-offs for the championship, but this time in ninth place only because of the poorer direct comparison . For the following season, the club ended the contract with Collins at the start of the season in October 2015.

Columns

After Collins published in the student magazine The Collegiate Times during his student days , he continued to work as a writer during his active basketball career. In addition to an article for the Huffington Post , Collins reported on his experiences over the course of his career, initially in collaboration with TrueHoop founder Henry Abbott and later also on his own for the sports news network ESPN . Among other things, he wrote about the civil war-like conditions in Ukraine and made reflections on Black Lives Matter and various experiences in dealing with people of color with the police, such as Thabo Sefolosha, who was born in Switzerland and confronted with police violence in the United States .
