history
The company was founded in 1994 as a film production company. Through investments, it expanded further and developed into a large media group that includes film and television productions, talent agencies, music labels and cinemas. On October 30, 2009, the conglomerate made international headlines when the ChiNext board of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange was halted after Huayi's share price more than doubled 122.74% from its initial public offering, opening at 63.66 yuan per share. In February 2011, Huayi Brothers announced their intention to build the largest television and film studio complex in East Asia. For 2016, the group planned to raise 10 billion yuan from the box office. As of April 2015, the company was worth $ 7.9 billion.
In 2014, Huayi planned to invest $ 150 million in Studio 8 , a production company owned by former Warner studio boss Jeff Robinov. This did not happen, however, and the Fosun International group from Shanghai took its place .
