Hubert Adolph

Hubert Adolph (born May 13, 1926 in Vienna ; † 2007 ) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Adolph comes from a family of officers and went to the Schottengymnasium and the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna. From 1943 to 1945 he served as an Air Force auxiliary for the army and after his Labor Service in the horse-drawn artillery in World War II involved. After the end of the war he studied art history , classical archeology and history at the universities of Vienna and Innsbruck . During his studies in 1946 he became a member of the KÖStV Austria Wien , whose archivist he had been since 1947. In 1952 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . Adolph became an extraordinary member of the Institute for Austrian Historical Research , which he graduated from 1954 to 1957. In the winter semester of 1957/58 he studied law . From 1948 to 1954 he worked as a professional student in the expert service of the art department of the Dorotheum .

He worked in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in the Wagenburg and in the outfit depot. In 1960 he went to the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere , where he became provisional director in 1983 and director in 1985. In 1991 he retired. From 1969 to 1989 Adolph was responsible for looking after the New Museum Alte Hofmühle in Hollabrunn . In the Austrian Armed Forces he was last Colonel of the Reserve and was used as a cultural property protection officer in the management department of the Federal Ministry for National Defense .

He was a founding member of the Malteser Hospitaldienst Austria and a member of the Order of Malta . In 1967 he was a founding member of the Austrian Society for Research into Student History .
