Hugo Mayer (politician, 1886)

Hugo Mayer (born February 6, 1886 in Judenburg , † June 10, 1963 in Dornbirn ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ), typesetter and publisher. From 1918 to 1919 he was a member of the provisional state assembly of Vorarlberg .

education and profession

After attending primary school, Mayer learned the profession of typesetter in the Styria book printing company in Graz. He then completed his wandering years in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Bohemia and also attended the machine setters school in Karlsruhe. He worked for a long time as a book printer in Germany, working in Plauen , Schwabach , Rottenburg , Anzbach , Konstanz , Hagen and Dortmund . He was also active in South Tyrol , Venice and Trieste and also worked in Buchs , Schaffhausen , Herisau and Arbon in Switzerland . From 1916 he worked for the printing company in Lustenau, after which he worked from 1918 to 1919 in the administration and editing of the “Vorarlberger Wacht”. Mayer founded the book printing company Hugo Mayer & Co in Dornbirn in 1920 and was also active as the state guild master for the graphic arts industry in Vorarlberg from 1946 to 1960.

Politics and functions

Mayer was involved with the Social Democratic Party and belonged to the provisional Vorarlberg state assembly from November 3, 1918 to June 16, 1919. After the Second World War, he was also a city councilor in Dornbirn from May 18, 1945 to May 27, 1947. Furthermore, Mayer was a court-sworn expert and chairman of the apprentice examination committee.

Private

Mayer was the son of the glazier and gingerbread maker Theodor Mayer, who was born in St. Lambrecht in Styria in 1947. His mother Antonia Strimitzer, on the other hand, saw the light of day in Pilgramhof near Friesach in Carinthia in 1850. Mayer married Paula Maria Dorothea Charlotte Nobody (1887–1943) from Erfurt on July 4, 1914 in Hagen . After the death of his first wife, he married Anna Tribus (1895–1978) from South Tyrol (Tisens near Lana) on November 22, 1950 in Tschagguns . Hugo Mayer had a foster son born in 1943.
