Kafka (1839–1907), studied medicine from 1885 at the German Karl Ferdinand University in Prague . Right at the start of his studies, Salus joined the reading and speaking hall for German students in Prague and remained an active member of it throughout his university years . After receiving his doctorate on February 25, 1891, he worked as an assistant at the Hygiene Institute, then at the obstetrical clinic. On October 13, 1895, he married Olga Engel (1874–1926), a daughter of the porcelain manufacturer Ludwig Engel , who lives in the Prague suburb of Königliche Weinberge . In addition to his medical work, Salus published numerous volumes of poetry and stories and was one of the more important representatives of German Prague literature of his time. Among other things, he was a member of the Concordia writers and artists' association . Heinrich Vogeler illustrated some of his books, such as the little consolation book for the childless , and Arnold Schönberg set two of his poems to music.
