Huguette Tourangeau (born August 12, 1938 in Montreal ; † April 21, 2018 ) was a Canadian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Huguette Tourangeau was at the Conservatory in Quebec , among others, Richard Bonynge formed which was their most important patron. He participated in performances as partner of Joan Sutherland and also in some of his opera recordings.

In 1964 Tourangeau won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions singing competition in New York City . Together with the Bonynge / Sutherland couple, she appeared in Seattle as Mallika in Lakmé , in London as Urbain in Les Huguenots , in San Francisco as Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda , Adalgisa in Norma and as Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus .

She has also performed in Vancouver , Boston , Hamburg , Amsterdam , Mexico City , Dallas , Houston, Philadelphia and Santa Fé. In 1973 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York as Nicklausse in Les Contes d'Hoffmann with Plácido Domingo as partner. Above all, she was an interpreter of the French and bel canto repertoire.

Her husband Barry Thompson was director of the Vancouver Opera from 1975 to 1978.
