i1 Super Series
The i1 Super Series is an automotive racing series that is based in India . In the series, the Radical SR3 sports car is used as a standard vehicle. The debut season was supposed to take place in 2012, but was canceled before the start of the season.
The series is organized by Machdar Motorsports and sanctioned by the FIA and FMSCI .
format
In the i1 Super Series, two races are held every race weekend. Nine teams with two vehicles each were to take part in the 2012 season. A team ( franchise ) stands for an Indian city. Each race weekend, the teams choose two from a pool of 27 drivers, so that a total of 18 drivers start. At least one Indian driver must start in each team.
The racing series should originally have taken place from January to March, thus preventing clashes with other international racing series.
Racetracks
The i1 Super Series should take place in Asia . Formula 1 , FIA-GT1 and motorcycle world championships have already taken place on all of the tracks .
vehicle
The Radical SR3 sports car serves as the vehicle . The engine is a 260 hp 1,500 cc motorcycle engine from Suzuki . The curb weight of the vehicle is 570 kg and the maximum speed is 250 km / h.
Canceled 2012 season
For the 2012 season races were planned in as-Sachir , Doha , Dubai , Greater Noida and on Yas Island . A race in Sepang had previously been canceled. Before the first race, however, the whole season was canceled.
Thirty drivers from the series were nominated for the debut season. The nine teams would have chosen two of these drivers for their team for each race. One driver should have come from India . International drivers as well as Indian pilots who have only competed in national series should have competed in the series. Jacques Villeneuve ( CART champion 1995, Formula 1 world champion 1997) and the former Formula 1 Grand Prix winners Jean Alesi , Giancarlo Fisichella and Heinz-Harald Frentzen were among the best-known drivers . With Karun Chandhok and Vitantonio Liuzzi , two drivers who drove in Formula 1 in the preseason would have started, and with Pippa Mann a 2011 IndyCar driver would have participated in the championship. In addition to Mann, Cyndie Allemann would have been another woman in the series.
The nominated participants were divided into the categories International Drivers , Indian International and Indian Drivers .
