The IKMF is an international association of schools that teach the Israeli self-defense system Krav Maga .

Foundation and development

The sports association was created in 1996 at the request of Imi Lichtenfeld , the founder of Krav Maga, in order to promote worldwide distribution. The IKMF emerged from the Israeli Krav Maga Association (IKMA), founded in 1978 , the first Krav Maga association. As an organization, this was largely limited to Israel at the time. Imi Lichtenfeld and the instructors he had trained had been teaching internationally since the early 1980s and had created a growing group of Krav Maga schools, especially in the USA and Europe . Under the leadership of Eyal Yanilov , a standardized curriculum was created and programs established for various target groups. In addition to teaching civilians, there are specialized programs for police officers , soldiers , air marshals , bodyguards and other professional users. As a result of the increasing pirate threat , the training of Sea Marshals has recently started.

Todays situation

Krav Maga is an essential part of the training of members of the Israeli Armed Forces , the Israel Police and the agents of the Mossad . With 168,000 active soldiers serving in the Israeli armed forces, the majority of Israelis come into contact with Krav Maga. However, this is a very condensed program that focuses on purely military techniques. Instead, special forces learn much more advanced techniques, e.g. B. on dealing with hostage-taking .

IKMF today

The American Krav Maga Association, which was formerly part of the IKMF, has been called Krav Maga Worldwide since 2005 and is trying to expand beyond the USA. In return, the IKMF opens new schools in the USA.

The arms agency Sibat of the Israeli Defense Ministry distributes Krav Maga training of the IKMF as an official arms export of Israel to friendly states. Among other things, the Swedish army received Krav Maga lessons for its soldiers through this route. Also at the Airborne and Air Transport School of Bundeswehr teach since the beginning of 2008, two IKMF instructors military Krav Maga under the lone course . Krav Maga was the godfather of the IKMF for Sam Fisher's hand-to-hand combat technique in the video game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction .

In 2010, Avi Moyal took over the management of the IKMF as 1st Chairman. The IKMF is registered as a non-profit organization in Rishon LeZion . As a result of the splitting off of individual committee members, associations with worldwide distribution emerged, including the organization of Eyal Yanilov " Krav Maga Global " (2010) and Gabi Noah's "International Krav Maga" (2009).

IKMF Germany

After the IKMF had held individual seminars in Germany since 1998, the first German instructors were trained in 2002. In 2005 the first instructor course was held in Germany. The headquarters of the IKMF Germany is in Munich . In September 2019, 39 locations in Germany belonged to the IKMF.

In addition to various day and weekend seminars by German IKMF instructors, there are also regular seminars by Israeli instructors from the Global Instructor Team . Training camps from all over the world take place several times a year in Israel. In Germany since 2005 there has been an annual Krav Maga instructor training, which is carried out by members of the Global Instructor Team according to the international standards of the IKMF .
