The Iason is a combined car and passenger ferry . It was built in Husum in 1988 and has been in use since 2019 between Pessada on Kefalonia and Agios Nikolaos on Zakynthos .
history
The ship was built in 1988 as Schleswig-Holstein as a replica of the extended Uthlande (built in 1980) for the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (WDR) at the Husum shipyard in Husum . She was baptized by Regina Möller on April 22, 1988. The test drive took place on May 18 of the same year. On May 18, 1988, the ship was delivered to WDR and started sailing under the German flag with home yeast Wyk auf Föhr . Then it connected the islands of Föhr and Amrum with the mainland port of Dagebüll for over 23 years . On September 24, 2005, the ship collided with the Rungholt off Dagebüll. The ship's side was badly damaged.
The ferry was sold to the Dutch shipping company Eigen Veerdienst Terschelling (EVT) on March 22, 2011 . On April 3, 2011, the ship reached the mainland port of Harlingen . Because of a "shipping company war" taking place there, it could not be used initially. Various modifications had to be made to the ship before the ship, which was renamed Spathoek in July 2011 and sailing under the Dutch flag , could operate regularly between Terschelling and Harlingen from March 30, 2012 . The dispute between the shipping companies about the scheduled trips between Terschelling and Harlingen, which also affects European law, lasted until 2015. The EVT was taken over by Rederij Doeksen in autumn 2014. The Spathoek last operated the Terschelling – Harlingen line on September 30, 2014. After that she lay in the port of Lauwersoog for a long time .
The Spathoek was initially transferred from Lauwersoog to Piraeus in early May 2016 . In June 2016 the Spathoek was renamed Lisa , took off under the flag of Belize and has been deployed from Beirut ever since. After a stay in the shipyard, the Lisa was transferred to Beirut at the end of June 2016. In September 2017 it was renamed Lisa I and in 2018 it was transferred to Piraeus. There it was rebuilt and prepared for use in the Ionian Sea, where it has been connecting the islands of Kefalonia and Zakynthos under the name Iason since 2019 .
particularities
The then Schleswig-Holstein was the first WDR ferry of this type to receive a man-over-board boat powered by an outboard motor , which can be lowered into the water by a crane attached to the sun deck. The sister ships Nordfriesland and Uthlande were retrofitted in this regard in 1989.
