Ibis ( proper spelling in lower case) is a hotel chain of the French Accor group. It includes a total of 1,929 hotels from the brands Ibis, Ibis Budget (formerly Etap Hotels) and Ibis Styles (formerly All Seasons). The hotel chain is represented worldwide, the majority of the hotels are in Europe. There it is the largest hotel chain in terms of both the number of hotels and rooms.

history

The chain's first hotel opened in 1974 in Bordeaux , France , as a 2-star establishment . The core of the concept was to make lower prices possible by cutting back on the size and furnishings of rooms and restaurants. Guests should be offered a similar standard in every hotel in the hotel chain. Other Ibis hotels in other European countries followed. While these were almost exclusively owned by Accor in the 1970s, Ibis hotels were often opened with investment, management or franchise partners in the 1980s and 1990s . The hotel chain primarily took over the management of the houses.

After German reunification , the hotel chain also expanded into the new federal states. In addition to Mercure , also part of Accor, Ibis also took over some of the former Interhotels . The brand developed into the most important component of further growth in Germany. Orbis was occasionally used as a brand for hotels in central city locations, but since 1993 these hotels have been called Ibis again. By 1991 the number of houses rose to over 250 worldwide. The first hotel outside Europe opened in Fortaleza , Brazil . In 1992 Ibis entered the Australian market, followed by the first house in Morocco in 1997 . Later the focus shifted to South America . After the turn of the millennium, Ibis expanded its presence in the Arab and Asia-Pacific regions, for example with hotels in China , Kuwait , Russia and India .

In 1997, Ibis was the first hotel chain in the economy sector to receive ISO 9001 certification worldwide . Individual houses have now also been designed as 3-star hotels. In 2007, Accor announced that it would invest even more heavily in Etap and Ibis hotels, giving both hotel chains greater weight in the group. Franchise hotels became more and more important in Germany. In 2011 Accor renamed the two brands All Seasons and Etap in favor of Ibis. Etap was replaced by Ibis Budget, All Seasons by Ibis Styles. Ibis got a new branding , and Accor designed new beds for all hotels in the chain.

Brands

Ibis hotels

Ibis in Berlin-Wilmersdorf (2015)

Ibis is the chain's central brand. In 2014, the house on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin passed the 1,000 hotel mark. These are usually conveniently located, are in the city center or in the vicinity. As a rule, Ibis hotels are equipped with a hotel bar, and some houses also have a restaurant. These are often garni hotels with no lunch or evening meals. However, snacks are prepared around the clock. The rooms are mostly double rooms with a private bathroom (shower and toilet) and air conditioning as well as a cloakroom, television and desk. Light wooden furniture and warm brown tones serve as a distinguishing feature.

Ibis budget

Ibis Budget is the chain's low-cost brand. These hotels are often found near motorways or commercial areas, and increasingly also in central locations. The small rooms are simply furnished: They have a French bed with a bunk bed above. They also have a chair and table, television and often air conditioning. The shower, toilet and washbasin have either been integrated into the room or are in a small separate room. In many homes there is no 24-hour reception, but a self - check .

Ibis Styles

Ibis Styles is the hotel chain's design brand. The hotels are located in the city center or near well-known attractions. The single or double rooms are larger than those of Ibis Budget and Ibis, they have a bathroom with shower and toilet. Air conditioning, TV and a larger desk are also standard. At Ibis Styles, breakfast and Internet access are usually included in the room price. Ibis Styles is based on boutique hotels and offers a noticeably higher quality interior.
