Guest musician

The instrumentals Awoken and Equinox were recorded by Olafur Arnalds at his home in Mosfellsbær / Iceland . Arnalds himself plays the piano for the two pieces . He is supported by Margret Soffia Einarsdóttir ( violin ), Una Petursdóttir (violin), Arnus Hulda Audunsdóttir (violin), Pordug Gudmundur Hermannson ( cello ).

action

This album is thematically about the end of the world through 123 warriors, who live unrecognized among the people and in solitude . They are described as unknown, no legends, myths, songs and books testify to their wars. Their weapons were not created by water and fire, but by the hope of the people. You awaken in the darkest of times when false gods and idols are worshiped. God, who bears a thousand names and was nevertheless the one, is killed by betrayal , ridicule, and forgetting of people. With the death of the only God a war breaks out against the world full of murderers.

Cover

The cover shows a warrior with two swords . With one sword he tries to break his chains. With the other sword he strikes back against a murderer who is represented as a demon . In the background you can see a city and a red sun . The cover artwork and the drawings are by Callejon singer Bastian Sobtzick. On the last page of the booklet, Nietzsche 's third book The Happy Science is quoted, which says that God is dead.

Reviews

Rock Hard Germany described the album as work of the month for August 2008, but this album contains a small blemish, which the critic identifies as "the sticky and pressureless drum sound". The Vampster critic described the album as mediocre as it did not quite reach the bar of the previous album Deaf to Our Prayers . Nevertheless, he finds the instrumental pieces Awoken and Atonement successful, which the critic found outstanding in the album Antigone . Laut.de goes one step further and describes the background of the story. According to the critic, the 123 warriors represent the so-called iconoclasts , i.e. warriors of God who are actually supposed to kill idols and false gods, but only avenge God's death. The critic thinks the album is very interesting, although he calls it a "lump of anger".

The German magazine Visions had the album in their list of the 66 + 6 best metal albums of the third millennium in spring 2017.
