IdleAir

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IdleAir (“air in idle”) is a subsidiary of Convoy Solutions LLC , which offers truck drivers a central cabin supply at truck rest areas in the USA . The patented IdleAir service terminal Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) is more versatile and complex than the conventional electrification of stationary trucks, Truck Stop Electrification (TSE), which is aimed at saving fuel by avoiding idling of parked trucks.

Most TSE systems consist of a standard power connection for parked trucks. In addition to the 120-volt mains power, the ATE offers temperature-controlled supply air with heating and air conditioning as well as connections for telephone, Internet and television. The ATE service terminal is fed via an unmistakable yellow hose, the adapter plate of which is clamped into the retractable side window of the vehicle.

history

Founded in June 2000, IdleAire filed for bankruptcy on May 12, 2008 after a $ 18 million claim for damages was successful. The widow of a truck driver from Florida who had died of carbon monoxide intoxication had sued. The IdleAire system sucked in exhaust gases from stationary trucks with their engines running, although filtered air was assured. IdleAire had opened 131 locations in 34 states. On May 16, 2008, a news release appeared on the company's website stating that the company would continue to operate. Still, IdleAire was officially closed on January 29, 2010. In the meantime, some systems have been dismantled.

reopening

Convoy Solutions LLC of Knoxville , Tennessee purchased the assets of IdleAire in 2010 and reopened the new company under the same name.

Locations

Since reopening, IdleAir has opened 32 locations in 12 states: Arizona , Arkansas , California , Georgia , Illinois , Minnesota , Missouri , New Jersey , Pennsylvania , Tennessee, Texas and Utah . The company offers its services at some of the larger truck stops including Pilot Flying J , Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores , Sapp Brothers and TravelCenters of America , which have taken over the Petro Stopping Centers to TA and Petro Shopping Centers .

The market

When diesel prices fell in 2014, IdleAir's range came under pressure. IdleAir then entered into a collaboration with a photovoltaic company to supply the stationary trucks with their own solar power. The energy demand is great, because frozen transports are supplied by diesel generators on the way. The Big Boy's Truck Stop rest area in Kenly ( North Carolina ) was planning a new system with 24 ATE terminals from IdleAir for 2017 , which is expected to save up to 25,000 gallons of diesel annually, which corresponds to 94,600 liters . Even before this facility was built, IdleAir was recognized for sustainability by the Tennessee State Environmental Protection Agency.

2017 cost in Laredo ( Texas ), the geographical the same width is like the desert Thar or the Western Sahara , a useful, up to 24 hours 35 dollars which is cheaper than the truck during the prescribed rest periods from 11 to 13 hours due to leave the air conditioning on while standing or book a motel.
