Ignaz Brüll (born November 7, 1846 in Proßnitz , Moravia , † September 17, 1907 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer and pianist .

Life

Ignaz Brüll came from a highly musical family: his father was a trained baritone , his mother a pianist. Since around 1854 Brüll has been taking piano lessons from his mother. Other teachers of Brüll were Julius Epstein (piano), Johann Rufinatscha and Felix Otto Dessoff (composition).

In 1860 Brüll made his debut as a pianist in Vienna and enjoyed immediate success. But after touring abroad with his own compositions, he gave up the career of a concert pianist in favor of composing. Between 1872 and 1878 he worked as a pedagogue at the Horak piano schools . In 1881 he was appointed artistic director there. In 1882 Brüll married the banker's daughter Marie Schosberg. With her he had two daughters. He had a lifelong friendship with Johannes Brahms . His grave, designed by Oskar Marmorek , is in the Vienna Central Cemetery and there in the old Jewish cemetery.

With Brüll's composition Das goldene Kreuz , an opera that was a great success, the rest of his oeuvre takes a back seat.
