Ignaz Fraz Mosel , from 1818 Edler von Mosel , (also Ignaz von Mosel ; born April 1, 1772 in Vienna , † April 8, 1844 ibid) was an Austrian composer, music writer and civil servant.

Life

In 1797, Mosel was an Ingrossist of the kk Bancal state accounting, an official in the kk Obersthofmeisteramt and finally kk Hofrath and first custodian of the court library . In 1812 he was the first conductor in Vienna to use a baton when he conducted a monumental concert with Carl Steinacker . With particular commitment he directed and organized the music festivals of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna from 1812 to 1816 at the suggestion of Andreas Streicher , such as the Handel performances in the Winter Riding School , which ultimately led to the establishment of the society and its choir .

On July 18, 1818 he was raised to the nobility. From 1820 Mosel acted as the court theater vice director and had little influence on the fortunes of the court opera after Domenico Barbaja leased it. But he was still committed to the incidental music of the Burgtheater . From 1821 Mosel was vice director of the court library, from 1829 its director. He carried the title of court counselor.

meaning

Mosel was one of the most influential personalities in musical life in pre-March Vienna. In his private life he was on friendly terms with the Schubert circle . He composed mainly vocal works and worked as a research writer on music and -rezensent important (he created the first scientific work on the Requiem of Mozart ). Through his personal commitment, he also supported the Vienna Boys' Choir .

In 1974 Moselgasse in Vienna- Favoriten was named after him. There is a memorial plaque on the family grave in the Hietzingen cemetery (Gr. 44 No. 46).
