Im Kyu-tae (born January 6, 1981 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean tennis player .

Career

The Kyu-tae mainly played tournaments on the third-class ITF Future Tour and the second-class ATP Challenger Tour . He was able to win ten singles and nine doubles titles on the Future Tour. He won a doubles title on the Challenger Tour.

He celebrated his first success on the Future Tour in 2002 in doubles. Through several semi-finals on the Future and Challenger Tour, he scratched the top 400 singles in the world rankings in June 2003. He made his debut for the South Korean Davis Cup team in the encounter against Indonesia a year later. In the following years he won further titles on the Future Tour and climbed further in the world rankings so that in 2006 he was among the top 300 in the world for the first time in doubles. His best double placement came in January 2008 with a 278th place.

In 2009 he took part in the qualification for all four Grand Slam tournaments. While he failed in the first round at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships , he made it into the second qualifying round at the Australian Open and US Open . He had his only appearance on the ATP World Tour in 2010 in San José . After he failed in the final qualifying round on Ričardas Berankis , he moved into the main draw as a lucky loser due to a cancellation by Mardy Fish . There he lost his opening match against Michael Russell .

His only success on the Challenger Tour came in 2011 in Busan in doubles . With his partner Danai Udomchoke he moved into the final without losing a set, in which they beat the pairing Jamie Baker and Vasek Pospisil in straight sets. In July he played his last Davis Cup match against Pakistan . Overall he has a balance of 5: 7 in singles and 1: 2 in doubles. In his hometown of Seoul , he last appeared on the Challenger Tour in October 2013 and then ended his professional career. His best placing in the individual was a 160th place in 2009.
