The Spessart are the ghosts is a German television film from Sat.1 from 2010. Thematically, the film is vaguely based on the 1960 comedy The Spooky Castle in Spessart , which is based on Wilhelm Hauff . Annette Frier , Pasquale Aleardi and Michael Kessler play the leading roles . The film premiered on February 9, 2010 on Sat.1.

action

After the death of his wife, the chef Ralf Dienert from Berlin buys an old pub in the Spessart . There he wants to build a new life together with his children. At first, however, 12-year-old Nico and 15-year-old Miriam are not very pleased to have to turn their backs on their hometown Berlin and their friends. Dienert finds support from the waitress Valerie. When he opened his restaurant, he was faced with the ghost robbers Karl, Pug and Clovis. The three do not want to give up their 300-year-old domicile and are permanently disrupting operations.

However, when the worthless Count von Hohenfels wanted to take over the inn, the ghosts preferred to ally themselves with Ralf Dienert's family, especially since they have become friends with the cook's children.

The lexicon of international films could not gain much from the film adaptation and qualified it as "undemanding, trivial (television) family entertainment", [...] which "vaguely lean on Kurt Hoffmann's hit comedy The Spooky Castle in Spessart (1960) [e]".

TV Spielfilm recalled "the wonderful Liselotte powder grusical Das Spukschloss im Spessart from 1960", which the film was based on and was of the opinion that only the bad gags would scare with this slapstick stuff. "Only the trick technology pulls it out to some extent." Conclusion: "The ghosts are willing, but the jokes are cheap."

Also Rainer Tittelbach of tittelbach.tv slating the film 2.5 out of 6 stars were and drew the following conclusion: "The spirits along with modern animation techniques are quite funny for kids - adults, however, have foregone Kasperletheater nostalgics would be to come up with It's fun to follow this gruesome, irony-free genre mix of romantic comedy, children's films and scary clothes.
