Immanuel Weber (legal scholar)

Immanuel Weber (born September 23, 1659 in Hohenheida ; † May 7, 1726 in Gießen ) was a German legal scholar , historian and university professor .

Life

Weber was the son of the theologian Immanuel Weber . In 1672 he went to the grammar school in Grimma , in 1677 to study theology at the University of Leipzig . On December 14, 1678, he received the theological bachelor's degree , in 1681 the master's degree . In 1682 he moved to the specialist because of his weak voice and poor health law . Among other things, he studied with Christian Thomasius , Bartholomäus Leonhard von Schwendendörffer and August Benedict Carpzov . In 1683 he went to the University of Jena for a year . On his return he became court master of Princes Günther and August Wilhelm von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Prince Christian Wilhelm von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen initially awarded him the title of secretary, and in 1687 he made him head of the entire archive. In 1697 he was appointed Count Palatine .

Weber came to Giessen in 1698. There he was proposed to succeed Gottfried Arnold . Contrary to his original plans, he stayed in Giessen. Accordingly, on September 26, 1698, he became a full professor of history at the University of Giessen . In 1699 he also received an extraordinary professorship in law and, as the successor to Johann Reinhard Hedinger, he was head of the university library . On May 2 In 1699 he was with the dissertation De vindiciis adversus legatum delinquent et de judice ejus competente to Dr. iur. doctorate and appointed full professor in 1713. After several rejected appointments, he was appointed to the Hesse-Darmstadt council in 1715. In 1720 he gave up his chair of history, in 1722 he took over the position of the university syndic and in 1725 that of the university's vice-chancellor .

Despite the large number of offices, Weber published a large number of writings, then died suddenly of a severe hemorrhage in office.

His son was the lawyer, Count Palatine, Schwarzburg-Sondershausenscher councilor and court attorney in Wetzlar and later Immanuel Weber († 1732), court counselor in Mergentheim .
