Inácio do Nascimento de Morais Cardoso (born December 20, 1811 in Murça , † February 23, 1883 in Lisbon ) was the eleventh Patriarch of Lisbon and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Morais Cardoso studied at the University of Coimbra , where he received a licentiate in theology . He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1835 . He served as treasurer of the Church of St. Roche da Misericódia as well as chaplain and confessor of King Peter V of Portugal and was treasurer of the royal chapel in the Palácio das Necessidades .

Pope Pius IX appointed him Bishop of Faro on September 28, 1863 . Manuel Bento Cardinal Rodrigues da Silva consecrated him bishop on February 14, 1863 in Lisbon. He attended the First Vatican Council in Rome in 1869 and 1870. He was promoted to Patriarch of Lisbon on April 25, 1871 .

On December 22nd, 1873 Pius IX took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Nereo e Achilleo in the college of cardinals . He took part in the conclave of 1878 , which Leo XIII. chose. He died in Lisbon at the age of 71 and was buried in the Catedral Sé Patriarcal .
