In Legend is a corporation founded in 2010 piano - rock band of Van Canto -Schlagzeugers Bastian Emig, in which he for the singing is responsible and playing the piano. The band was founded together with Daniel Wicke ( bass ) and Dennis Otto ( drums ), but both have not been in the band since spring 2014. Since June 2014 the group has consisted of Daniel Galmarini (piano), Daniel Schmidle ( keytar , piano), Paul Perlejewski (bass) and Marcos Feminella (drums) alongside Emig .
history
Foundation and first EP
Bastian Emig states that even before he became a member of Van Canto, during his studies and during a one-year stay in China, he made the first compositions for the project that became the band In Legend today . According to his own statement, he had always presented his composition ideas to the respective guitarists at the piano in various bands for which he was active on the drums, but especially in his youth band Jester's Funeral , since he himself did not master the guitar. The band describes the resulting musical style as hand-hammered piano craft .
The Pandemonium EP , limited to 500 copies, was the band's first acoustic sign of life and was completed for the very first tour as the opening act for Van Canto in spring 2010. The EP was recorded with producer Charlie Bauerfeind , whom Emig had met through previous recordings with Van Canto. Bastian Emig was influenced musically by him. The EP was finally made available as a free download on May 1st at the same time as the launch of the official website .
The debut album Ballads 'n' Bullets and record deal with SPV Records
Inlegend's debut album was recorded and mastered in December 2010. The result was a record deal with the SPV label . For the first time, a release by an artist in collaboration with two sub-labels (Steamhammer & Oblivion) was published here. Ballads 'n' Bullets was released on May 20, 2011. The 14 songs also included the four songs from the Pandemonium EP . In advance, you already had the chance to activate and preview the songs on the album using a streaming app programmed especially for this purpose on Facebook .
To date, the band has undertaken two support tours to promote the album (which also took them to Switzerland and the Netherlands) and also played a few headlining concerts and festivals . Music videos were also shot for four songs on the album (“Pandemonium”, “Vortex”, “Soul Apart” and “Universe”) . A special feature here was the idea and creation of a " YouTube DVD", into which all the songs on the album were gradually to be incorporated either with a professional music video or self-compiled slideshow videos. The whole thing is a hitherto unique multimedia project, for which a separate menu screen was also designed.
The second album Stones At Goliath and a line-up change
From the end of 2012 to the summer of 2013 Inlegend were in the studio to record the follow-up to their debut album. The album, which will be titled Stones At Goliath , will be the first release with Daniel Schmidle, who joined in 2011, and will also feature a different sound. In addition to the usual instrumentation, a. a violin , a cello (played by Benni Cellini, member of the German band last instance ), organ sounds , synths , a real gospel choir and a guest singer (Laura Vargas from the Chilean heavy metal band Sacramento) on the album be heard. In the end, 20 of 45 compositions were recorded. The band plans to release the album as a double album in fall 2014, followed by a tour. In March and April 2014, the band's fans already had the opportunity to listen to some of the songs on the new album during special pre-listening sessions.
In June 2014 Inlegend announced on Facebook that bassist Daniel Wicke and drummer Dennis Otto are no longer in the band. Replacement was found in Paul Perlejewski and Marcos Feminella. In addition, a third pianist, Daniel Galmarini, was brought on board.
Stones At Goliath was released on January 9, 2015. Shortly after the release, the band confirmed on Facebook that they had changed their name from In Legend to Inlegend .
style
Stylistically, Inlegend's songs on the debut album are heavily influenced by heavy metal , but the guitar sound characteristic of metal bands is completely dispensed with. Instead, Inlegend focuses on the piano. Bastian Emig also describes the sound as " Tori Amos on coke ". Emig produces - supported by aggressive double bass use of the drums, a pounding electric bass and the left hand on the piano - a very hard, driving sound. With the right hand and his singing, in contrast, catchy melodies are created. In addition to the metal elements, influences from the areas of classical , rock / alternative and pop can also be found in the sound of the band .

Inlegend often work with strong symbolism and recurring elements. The hammer is a metaphorical leitmotif , which can be found both in the self-created music style “Hand-hammered Piano Craft” and in the “Pandemonium” music video. The nicknames of the musicians are all mentioned in the lyrics of the song "Vortex". In the Pandemonium EP a line of text is already called "Why would I need to tie my heart to your broken wings to touch the sky?" To find. This is the first part of the chorus of the opener song "Heaven Inside", which was only released on the debut album. The “broken wing” can be understood as an allusion to the music industry, which has been battered by digitization, and to record labels in general. This can be confirmed by a hidden text in the Pandemonium EP . There it says: “Congratulation - You just took the first step towards becoming an unscrupulous recod label CEO by destroying an artist's piece of work!” (In German: “ Congratulations. You have taken the first step by destroying the work of an artist dared to become an unscrupulous record label boss! ")
According to his own statement, Bastian Emig cannot read sheet music and learned to play the piano autodidactically in his childhood after “it was once in our living room and I sat down at it”. In his youth he wanted to impress the girls with it. He liked to play pieces by Guns n 'Roses .
