Ina Kathrin Schieferdecker (* 1967 in Berlin-Mitte ) is a German computer scientist . She was a university professor at the Technical University of Berlin . From 2015 to 2019 she headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems . She is the founding director of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society . In October 2019 she became head of the “Research for Digitization and Innovation” department at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Life

Ina Schieferdecker studied mathematical computer science at the Humboldt University of Berlin and received her doctorate in 1994 from the Technical University of Berlin on performance-enhanced specifications and the analysis of service quality properties. During short research stays, she worked at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), Berkeley , USA and at CRIM, Montreal, Canada.

From 1997 to 2004 she was the head of the competence center for testing, interoperability and performance. Afterwards she was head of the competence center for modeling and testing at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) in Berlin. From 2003 to 2011 Schieferdecker taught design and testing of telecommunication systems at the Technical University of Berlin. From 2011 to 2015 she headed the model-based development and quality assurance of software-based systems department at the Free University of Berlin. Since January 1, 2015, she has headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS together with Manfred Hauswirth . On January 1, 2016, Ina Schieferdecker also took over a professorship at the Technical University of Berlin in the field of Quality Engineering of Open Distributed Systems at the Institute for Telecommunication Systems . She is the founding director of the Weizenbaum Institute for the networked society in Berlin, which opened on September 21.

Ina Schieferdecker initially dealt with software-based networked systems, especially with their specification, modeling, simulation and verification, and since her doctorate in particular with the systematic testing of these systems. At the end of the 1990s, she intensified her work on the subjects of test specification and automation of functional tests as well as performance and safety tests. She made significant contributions to the Testing and Test Control Notation (TTCN-3) and the UML Testing Profile (UTP).

It develops model-based test approaches with the aim of further test automation that goes beyond automated test execution and aims to generate logical tests and test data. In addition to software-based systems and their functionality and performance, embedded systems and their non-functional properties such as real-time-critical behavior and safety-critical behavior are also considered. The extension of the test approaches of communication-based systems to embedded systems represents a further milestone in her work. Ina Schieferdecker's work on mastering the dynamics of communication-based, distributed systems for a verifiable and repeatable evaluation of system properties through testing forms an essential basis for a large number of national and multinational projects.

In October 2019 she moved to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), where she heads the “Research for Digitization and Innovation” department.
