The Incentro is one of Adtranz developed from 1998 100% low - tram vehicle . With the acquisition of Adtranz by Bombardier in 2001, production was transferred to Bombardier Transportation . However, this company actively markets its own Flexity model range , which contains comparable types. The last vehicles so far were manufactured in 2003.

General

Incentro is a modular model series that includes short articulated trolleys and multi-articulated trolleys . The short-articulated variant is a further development of the GTxN / M / S vehicles, the multi-articulated variant is a further development of the Variobahn from the same manufacturer. The concept provides for two-, three-, four-, five- and seven-part cars in widths of 2.30 m, 2.40 m and 2.65 m; the front parts can be designed individually. The type designation is AT x / y ( A dtranz T ram x = number of wheel pairs / y = number of car body segments ), multi- link arms with long middle parts are given the addition "L". So far, only the five-part multi-joint design has been produced.

Incentro trams currently operate in Nantes and made up the original Nottingham Express Transit fleet (now supplemented by Alstom Citadis vehicles). In Nottingham operate 15 Incentro tramcars that of Bombardier Transportation in Derby (Derbyshire) were built. When production is resumed, the vehicles would have to be redesigned to meet the DIN EN 15227 standard (published in 2008).

The incentive vehicles influenced the new development of the Bombardier Flexity Berlin , which was presented in 2008.

Technical features of the multi-joint design

It is a 100% low-floor articulated vehicle consisting of five modules, which is designed for bi-directional driving at speeds of up to 80 km / h. The bogies at the front and rear are each equipped with four spring-loaded individual wheel drives, the middle bogie has no drive.

Takeover of the incentive design in Japan

The Japanese manufacturer Niigata Transys has been producing short articulated trolleys under Adtranz and later Bombardier licenses in small numbers for the Japanese market since the 1990s . For these vehicles, the Incentro car body shape was adopted from 2002. Outwardly they correspond to the Incentro types AT 4/2 and AT 6/3, which are no longer built by Bombardier. Due to the design of their running gear and drives (motors with cardan drive to the bogie installed lengthways in the car body ), they are not counted as the Incentro, but as the GTx type.

Others

After testing, the Incentro prototype delivered to Nantes was used as a spare parts dispenser and some of it was scrapped. For years, a head section of the vehicle was built into the backdrop of the stunt show in the Babelsberg Film Park as the "Atomic Café", but has since been dismantled.
