Inge Lange
Ingeburg ("Inge") Lange (née Rosch ; * July 24, 1927 in Leipzig ; † July 13, 2013 in Berlin ) was a candidate for the Politburo of the SED Central Committee and head of the women’s department of the SED Central Committee in the GDR . Along with Margarete Müller and Margot Honecker , she was one of the few women in the highest power bodies in the GDR.
Life
Long father was the Leipzig KPD politician Alfred Rosch (1899–1945). The trained seamstress was a member of the Antifa youth committee Leipzig- Großzschocher in 1945 . In 1945 she joined the KPD and became a member of the SED in 1946 when the SPD and KPD were forced to merge . Between 1946 and 1961, Lange held various functions in the FDJ in particular . In 1946/47, Lange attended a course and then worked as an assistant at the Antifa school in Königs Wusterhausen . In 1947 she worked as a teacher at the Northwest Youth School in Mutzschen (Saxony). From 1947 to 1949 she was first secretary, then in 1949/50 first secretary of the FDJ area management in Wismut. From 1948 to 1950 she was also a member of the Wismut area leadership of the SED and was a member of its secretariat. In 1950/51 she acted as the second secretary of the FDJ regional executive committee for Greater Berlin. From May 1952 to December 1961 she was secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ. From September 1951 to July 1952 she studied at the Komsomol University in Moscow ; Between 1955 and 1961 she completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" with a degree in social science .
From August 1961 she succeeded Edith Baumann as head of the working group or department women of the Central Committee. In the women's commission founded by Walter Ulbricht , the topic of self-determination of women about their bodies was controversially discussed. In the end there was the law regulating the termination of pregnancy , which was adopted on March 9, 1972 against 14 votes from the CDU parliamentary group in the People's Chamber of the GDR.
From 1963 Lange was a candidate and from December 1964 a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED . In 1973 she became a candidate for the Politburo and secretary of the Central Committee for Women's Issues. On November 8, 1989, she resigned with the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED, but was subsequently re-elected as a candidate for the new Politburo and as Secretary of the Central Committee. However, following protests from the party base, she had to resign on November 10th. On January 21, 1990, Lange was expelled from the SED- PDS . After the expulsion, she withdrew from the public eye. She was the author of the volume Walter Ulbricht , edited by Egon Krenz , which was published by Das Neue Berlin in June 2013 on his 120th birthday .
Lange was a member of the People's Chamber from 1952 to 1954 and again from 1963 to 1989. From 1963 to 1967 she was a member of the Committee for Industry, Construction and Transport, from 1971 deputy chairwoman of the Committee for Labor and Social Policy.
Lange's daughter is the writer Katja Lange-Müller .
Inge Lange died on July 13, 2013 in a Berlin hospital.
