Inocenc Arnošt Bláha (born July 28, 1879 in Krasoňov , † April 25, 1960 in Brno ) was a Czechoslovak sociologist , philosopher and educator .

Life

After graduating from high school in Pilgrams in 1897, he attended the theological seminary in Königgrätz , from which he was excluded in 1899 because of his free-thinking views. He then studied philosophy and sociology in Prague , Vienna and Paris , and in 1908 wrote his dissertation at Charles University .

He then worked as a professor at the secondary school in Neustadtl . At the University of Applied Sciences in Brno he wrote his habilitation in philosophy with a focus on sociology, continued to work at schools in Brno and Prague and finally switched to the philosophical faculty of the arts in 1922, where he was professor and rector of the sociological seminar until 1949 . After the closure of Czech universities during the Second World War and brief imprisonment, he fought to maintain the subject of sociology until his retirement in 1949. After 1950 he worked on his work Sociology (Sociologie); a synthesis of his life's work.

Works

Together with Emanuel Chalupný and Josef Ludvík Fischer , he published the magazine Soziologische Revue from 1930 to 1949 . In addition to theoretical and methodological sociological work, he published a number of monographs on the subject of sociology of workers, farmers and scholars, sociology of youth and family, and the history of Czech sociology. But he also dealt with problems of ethics, family and upbringing.

His philosophical views were turned towards critical realism, including the classical positivism of Auguste Comte , John Stuart Mill and Herbert Spencer and the sociological objectivism of Émile Durkheim .
