The Instrutsch ( Russian Инструч , German  Inster ) is a river in Russia in the Kaliningrad Oblast in the former East Prussia .

geography

The Instrutsch rises five kilometers northeast of the village of Prawdino (Grumbkoweiten , 1938 to 1946 Grumbkowsfelde) and forms 1 kilometer west of Tschernjachowsk (Insterburg) with the Angerapp (Angrapa) the Pregel (Pregolja).

The river valley of the Instrutsch is 1 to 2 kilometers wide. The small river, flowing slowly and hardly recognizable, with its many windings almost gets lost in it. However, this is of particular importance during floods.

Surname

The oldest name of the river is Instrut / Instrud . The linguists do not agree on the interpretation: the most likely is “mouth / influence” (cf. Lithuanian: istras , intaka ).

Tributaries of the Instrutsch

The Instrutsch has at least 17 named tributaries, the longer ones of which mostly flow on the left side. Most of these small rivers are insignificant and even run dry in summer. When it rains heavily, however, they become abundant in water and often contribute to the Instrutsch overflowing its banks. With a lot of silt they carry with them, they increase the fertility of the Instrutschwiesen.
