Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny
Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny (SZD) ( German test company for gliders ) was a Polish glider manufacturer . SZD is still a type designation for gliders today.
history
Instytut Szybownictwa, SZD and PDPSz PZL-Bielsko
After the Second World War , the Instytut Szybownictwa (IS; German: "Institute for Glider Flying ") was founded in Bielsko-Biała . In October 1948, the glider manufacturer Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny (SZD) was created under the leadership of the sports aircraft manufacturer Zakładów Sprzętu Lotnictwa Sportowego (ZSLS) in Warsaw. Even if the company SZD changed the company name several times, the type designation "SZD" has been retained until today. SZD developed the prototypes and built a pilot series; series production took place in the ZSLS plants in Jeżów and Lubawka (until 1951), Poznan and Danzig (until 1954), and later also in Krosno and Breslau, which replaced Danzig. An exception was the high-performance SZD-8 Jaskółka (Swallow), 135 of which were only manufactured in Bielsko-Biała.
In 1963 ZSLS was dissolved and SZD became an independent company, but now traded as Zakłady Szybowcowe Delta-Bielsko and took control of the ZSLS companies in Jeżów and Breslau. With a view to the use of fiber composite materials, the development center Zakład Doświadczalny Rozwoju i Budowy Szybowców was founded in 1969 , which changed its name to Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Szybownictwa (Glider Research and Development Center) in 1972 .
In 1975 this was merged with SZD to Przedsiębiorstwo Doswiadczalno-Produkcyjne Szybownictwa PZL Bielsko (PDPSz PZL-Bielsko), which, however, had no foreign trade license. All foreign exchange sales were made through the PZL (Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze) (State Aviation Works). PDPSz PZL Bielsko earned foreign exchange, but received it only to a limited extent in order to buy necessary materials abroad. [REF]
PDPSz PZL Bielsko and DAI-SZD
With the collapse of the socialist system, all of PZL Bielsko's restructuring measures failed . The company was temporarily placed under compulsory administration by the voivode, and bankruptcy could only be avoided through a partnership with Diamond Aircraft Industries (DAI). The long negotiations about the new DAI-SZD Sp. Z oo failed, however. In May 1996 the bankruptcy of PDPSz PZL Bielsko was declared and the company was wound up until 2008. The properties were subsequently taken over by Allstar Leasing and leased on to Allstar PZL Glider and Solaris Aviation .
Allstar PZL Glider
Allstar PZL Glider Sp. Z oo, founded in 2002, resumed licensed production of various types in 2003: SZD-50-3 (training two-seater), SZD-51-1 (training single-seater), SZD-59 (aerobatics) and SZD-55-1 (Performance flight).
The Allstar PZL Glider continues to use the old SZD logo and the official website is available at “www. szd .com.pl ”.
