Ioannis Spiteris

Ioannis Spiteris OFMCap , ( Greek Ιωάννης Σπιτέρης Ioánnis Spitéris ; born August 27, 1940 in Corfu City ) has been Roman Catholic Archbishop of Corfu, Zante and Kefalonia and administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Thessaloniki since 2003 .

Life

Archbishop Ioannis Spiteris was born in Corfu Town , the capital of the Greek island of Corfu . Coming from a large Christian family, he entered a Capuchin monastery after graduating from school and took his first monastic vows on December 10, 1963 .

After his theology - studying he received on 24 July 1968 by the then Archbishop of Corfu, Antonios Varthalitis , the ordination . He then completed a doctoral degree in theology at the University of Freiburg i. Ü. He later received a teaching position at the Pontifical Lateran University . He served as vicar and pastor in various parishes on the island of Corfu, in Athens and on Crete .

On March 22, 2003 he was appointed Archbishop of Corfu, Zante and Kefalonia, the episcopal ordination took place on May 18, 2003 by Antonios Varthalitis, his predecessor in the Archdiocese of Corfu; Co- consecrators were Nikolaos Foskolos , Archbishop of Athens , and Frangiskos Papamanolis , Bishop of Syros .

The office of Apostolic Administrator for the Vicariate of Thessaloniki , which has been vacant since 1929 and which Ioánnis Spitéris also holds, is connected to the Archbishopric of Corfu .
