description

Ipomoea crinicalyx is an herbaceous climber . The above-ground parts of the plant are hairless or sparsely hairy. The alternately arranged leaves are divided into long petioles and leaf blades. The simple leaf blade is rounded heart-shaped, suddenly tapering towards the front and weakly or deeply heart-shaped at the base. The leaf margin is entire, the underside is more or less punctiform and finely papilous , especially along the veins .

The zymous inflorescences contain one to a few flowers. The inflorescence shafts can be shorter, but also longer than the leaf stalks . The flower stalks are slender, mostly elongated and finely hairy. The hermaphrodite flowers are radially symmetrical with a double flower envelope . The leaf-like sepals are about 1.5 cm long, pointed or blunt, finely haired and spotted and densely covered with long, protruding, green, fleshy, prickly appendages. The crown is purple or blue, hairless and 6 to 9 cm long.

The bald capsule fruits are ovate and 12 to 15 mm long. The seeds are hairy on the edges.
