Iran Airtour (also Iran Air Tour , Persian ایران ایر تور) is an Iranian airline based in Tehran and based at Mashhad International Airport . It is a subsidiary of Iran Air .

history

Iran Airtour was founded in 1973 to cover the growing tourist market, primarily to operate charter flights . Tours around the world were even offered.

After much unrest caused by the revolution and the Iraq war , the Iran Airtour was restructured in the early 1990s. Some Tu-154M were leased in order to cope with the growing domestic traffic.

Due to the embargoes against Iran, Iran Airtour is also unable to order modern aircraft from European and American manufacturers such as Airbus or Boeing . To make matters worse, the Iranian supervisory authorities ordered the shutdown of all Tupolev Tu-154Ms operated in Iran due to safety concerns in February 2011, of which Iran Air Tours had operated ten units up to then. The company subsequently procured older western designs.

Destinations

Iran Airtour flies to the most important cities within Iran in regular service, many flights are operated in cooperation with Iran Air . In addition, destinations as far as southern Europe are sometimes served in charter traffic .
