Irma Beilke (born August 24, 1904 in Berlin ; died December 20, 1989 there ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and music teacher .

Life

The merchant's daughter Beilke received her musical training in Berlin from HT Dreyer and Gertrud Wirthschaft. Contrary to her father's wishes, she made her debut in 1926 at the Städtische Oper Berlin , where she stayed until 1928. She then moved to the Landestheater Oldenburg (1928–1930) and the Leipzig Opera House (1930–1936). She continued her education in coloratura - like lyrical soprano - and returned to Berlin as a well-known singer , where she was again permanently engaged at the opera from 1936 to 1958. She also had guest performance contracts with the operas in Leipzig and Munich, as well as in Vienna (1941–1945). She gave further guest appearances in London, Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Milan, Florence, Barcelona, ​​Zagreb and Belgrade.

She cast roles in the world premieres of Der Eulenspiegel (1936, Hans Stieber), Die pfiffige Magd (1939, Julius Weismann), Die Windsbraut (1941, Winfried Zillig ), Capriccio (1942) and Prussian Fairy Tale (1952).

As a singer, she was also hired for roles in films, and many of her pieces were recorded on vinyl . Since 1954 she gave private singing lessons. She gave her final performance in 1958 as Mimì in La Bohème in the building of the Theater des Westens . From 1958 to 1969 she was a professor at the Musikhochschule Berlin , then she retired. In 1980 she was made an honorary member of the Berlin State Opera.
