Irmantas Jarukaitis

Irmantas Jarukaitis (born February 6, 1973 in Prienai ) is a Lithuanian lawyer and European lawyer . He is currently a judge at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) from Lithuania and was previously a judge at the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania .

Life

From 1992 to 1997 Irmantas Jarukaitis graduated from the Law Faculty of Vilnius University with a degree in law . He then obtained his doctorate in 2008 on the subject of " EU and Lithuania: constitutional foundations of membership" (Supervisor Prof. Vilenas Vadapalas , Chair of EU and International Law ). He has been a lecturer at the chair so far . He trained abroad several times.

From April 1995 to 1996 he was senior specialist in the administrative department and from November 1996 in the international department in the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania . From July 1997 he worked in the Department of European Law at the Government of Lithuania , later in the Department of European Law at the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania as Senior Specialist, Head of the Sub-Department for Human Rights and International Law and Deputy Director General of the Department. From 2010 he was judge, from 2012 vice-president and from 2015 to 2017 acting president of the Lietuvos vyriausiasis administracinis teismas . Jarukaitis became a Lithuanian judge at the European Court of Justice for a six-year term in October 2018 , replacing Egidijus Jarašiūnas in this capacity.

He speaks English, Russian and French and has mastered the basics of Polish.
