Irmela Maier

Irmela Maier (born May 27, 1956 in Bad Waldsee ) is a German artist .

Life

Maier graduated from high school in Ravensburg , studied from 1976 to 1982 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart under Dieter Groß and graduated as an art teacher .

This was followed by one-year study visits to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1980–1981) and the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (1985–1986). Since 1988 she has had her studio in the studio community Wilhelmshöhe Ettlingen.

In addition to the classic materials clay, plaster and wood, Irmela Maier also uses waste material and found objects such as crown corks in her sculptures. Copper wires or plastics. Her models are preferably animals that she observes, draws and photographs in the zoo. The result of the temporary use of materials and close observation are amazingly realistic and lively sculptures.

The mother of two children lives in Ettlingen . She is the daughter of Irmela Hochstetter-Maier, who worked as a teacher and art teacher in Ettlingen.
