The Kunstverein Nördlingen is an art association founded in 2001 in Nördlingen . The art association sees its task as promoting contemporary visual art and its artists and awakening a general understanding of art.

History and program

The association was constituted as a registered association in July 2001 . Nördlingen lies between Stuttgart , Ingolstadt , Nuremberg and Munich in the Donau-Ries , and thus in a gap between these large urban art centers. The association is a member of the working group of German art associations . In 2011 the association had almost 200 members. Since it was founded, the association has been headed by the art historian Sabine Heilig, who also manages a private gallery in Niederalfingen and teaches art history in the architecture course at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences .

The association is intended to be a place of communication about contemporary art and support the exchange between artists and those interested in art. This happens through exhibitions, lectures, art trips, exhibition didactic offers and other art-mediating activities. In addition to the classic genres of painting and sculpture , current trends in national and international contemporary art such as photography, installation and media art are shown. The association sees itself as a forum for established positions as well as young, not yet established art, which should receive public recognition through constructive debate.

In September 2012 the association moved into its new premises in the Post Nördlingen building, as an incubator and nucleus in the center of the “art space at the train station”.

To mark its tenth anniversary in 2011, the Kunstverein organized an exhibition in the Nördlingen City Museum , in which eight contemporary artists made references to the exhibits there.

2013 was marked by the enthusiasm of young people for modern art and the exhibition Punk Rock - Young Art as a guest at the Kunstverein Nördlingen. The main point of this exhibition: Buses traveling on the line were painted with works of art.
