Isabel Bogdan

Isabel Bogdan (born July 5, 1968 in Cologne ) is a German literary translator , writer and blogger .

Life

Isabel Bogdan, née Dieker, studied English and Japanese studies in Heidelberg and Tokyo . Today she lives in Hamburg-Hohenfelde . In 2006 she received the Hamburg Prize for Literary Translation and in 2011 the Hamburg Prize for Literature. In 2013 she was artist in residence at Nanjing University for one month .

She has helped organize various reading series, including Kaffee.Satz.Lesen with Stevan Paul and Tirili / Tristesse with Maximilian Buddenbohm . She is also a member of the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German Language Translators (VdÜ) . She is chairman of the association for the rescue of the "one and a half" .

Bogdan translates texts by Jonathan Safran Foer , Nick Hornby, Megan Abbott , Tamar Yellin and Jane Gardam , among others . In 2016 her first novel Der Pfau was published , which was on the shortlist for the favorite book of the independent book trade and was awarded the German Audiobook Prize Hörkules .

Her first novel The Peacock was published in 2016 and was on the Spiegel bestseller list for months . In 2019 her second novel "Laufen" came out, which is about a woman who runs for her life after her husband committed suicide .
