The Isar cycle path is a 290 km long long- distance cycle path in Bavaria along the Isar .
course
The Isar cycle path can be roughly divided into 5 stages.
Scharnitz - Mittenwald (40 kilometers):
1st stage: Kastenalm (source of the Isar) -- The source of the Isar is in Austria in the Karwendel Mountains and can be reached by bike via a cul-de-sac from Scharnitz. The route has a moderate gradient and is graveled throughout.
Bad Tölz (65 kilometers):
2nd stage: Mittenwald -- The cycle path follows the course of the Isar and leaves the Karwendel Mountains at the Sylvenstein reservoir . Alternatively, you can continue on the Via Bavarica Tyrolensis along this stretch of water . Lenggries is passed in just a slight gradient until you reach the edge of the Bavarian Prealps in Bad Tölz. There you have the opportunity to turn onto the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path .
Munich (69 kilometers):
3rd stage: Bad Tölz -- There are a few inclines on this route; Especially after Wolfratshausen , the cycle path briefly leaves the Isar and climbs the Isar high bank, only to return to the Isar in Grünwald . From here the cycle path follows the river again to the center of Munich.
Landshut (77 kilometers):
4th stage: Munich -- In the urban area of Munich, the cycle path has no elevation , all intersecting streets are driven under with short passages, so that there are no crossings and no traffic lights for cyclists along the river in the entire urban area. North of the city, the cycle path runs through the largely wide Isar valley via Freising and Moosburg to Landshut
Deggendorf or Thundorf (Osterhofen) (82 kilometers):
5th stage: Landshut -- The last section leads via Dingolfing , Landau an der Isar and Plattling to Deggendorf. An alternative route branches off shortly before Deggendorf and leads to the confluence of the Isar and the Danube . From here there is also a connection with the Altaha bicycle ferry to the Danube Cycle Path on the other side of the river near Niederalteich .
In general, the Isar cycle path is well signposted and can be ridden without steep inclines. It runs on roads with little or no traffic, mostly near the Isar. The surface quality is mostly good, the route is partly paved.
The Isar cycle path is part of the Bavarian network for cyclists and is also marked with its symbol.
