Thundorf is a district of the city of Osterhofen in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf

location

The parish village is located directly on the Danube , opposite Niederalteich and not far from the mouth of the Isar.

history

Thundorf was first mentioned in 866 and came into the possession of Niederaltaich Monastery in 883 as Tuomtorf . In 907 Thundorf was devastated by the Huns . The place had a church since the beginning of the 13th century. Originally a branch church of Schwarzach near Hengersberg , it was subordinated to the parish of Aicha on the Danube in 1261 and incorporated into the Niederaltaich monastery in the 16th century.

Thundorf is mentioned in 1588 as an open Hofmark in the Osterhofen district court. In 1626 the plague struck the village. In 1742 and 1743 it was looted several times during the War of the Austrian Succession . In 1743 the previous sacristan's house was converted into a parsonage. On July 17, 1755, the church burned down after being struck by lightning. From 1755 to 1759 the new parish church was built under Abbot Ignatz I.

After the Niederaltaich monastery was abolished in the course of secularization in Bavaria , Thundorf was made a subsidiary of the Niederalteich parish in 1807 and looked after by a cooperator . In 1873 he was raised to the position of Expositur , in 1909 to a parish .

When the political communities were formed in 1818, Thundorf came to the community of Aicha an der Donau and remained with it until it was incorporated into the city of Osterhofen on May 1, 1978.

Thundorf used to be inundated by the Danube almost every year. During the summer months you can take the Altaha bicycle ferry to the other bank of the Danube near Niederalteich. Thundorf is located directly on the Danube Cycle Path and the right arm of the Isar Cycle Path ends here, which is why the village is the destination and transit point for many cyclists.

Attractions

The pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary and St. Quirinus from 1755 has uniform furnishings in the Rococo style . Benjamin Schreiter created the stucco and sculptural work. The frescoes and altar leaves are by Franz Anton Rauscher . They represent Mary and the various tortures of St. Quirinus . The pilgrimage to Thundorf has been documented since the 11th century and was looked after by the Benedictine Abbey of Niederaltaich. Every year pilgrims still make pilgrimages to St. Quirin to Thundorf.
