Galgweis is a district of the town of Osterhofen in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf .

Galgweis is located on the Vils about one kilometer east of Gergweis and about ten kilometers south of Osterhofen.

history

The Chronicon Lunaelacense of the Mondsee Monastery mentions a "villa in pago Qinzingaue secus Vilosam (Vils) qui vocatur Harioldesuuis" (the vicus = spot of a Hariold). The widow Angiltrut donated her property in Harioldeswis to the monastery in 757 with the consent of her son Gaganhart .

Later place names were Garioldswis , Galkwis and Galchwis . Presumably by exchange, the place came to the Hochstift Passau , whose possession was given to him in 1179 by Pope Alexander III. has been confirmed.

Albin appeared in 1138 and Pabo de Galchwis appeared as a witness in 1177. Pabo was Ministeriale of Bishop Theobald von Passau. In the 14th century Galgweis belonged to the Oberndorf rule.

In the 15th century the Amshamers took over the fiefdom. Franz Adam von Amsham, headess of the prince-bishop of Passau, spent his last years as benefactor in the monastery of Ranshofen near Braunau am Inn , to which he bequeathed Galgweis and Oberndorf. With his death in 1689, Galgweis fell to the monastery.

In 1809 the Augustinian canons of Ranshofen were secularized and Galgweis fell to the Bavarian state. On January 1, 1964, Oberndorf was incorporated. The municipal reform in Bavaria , the integration of the community Galgweis in the urban area of Osterhofen on 1 January 1972nd

Attractions

  • The baroque parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built from 1757 to 1759 after the previous church was demolished in 1741.
