Location of Niedermünchsdorf in Bavaria

Niedermünchsdorf is a district of the town of Osterhofen in the Deggendorf district in Bavaria .

history

The first known mention of low Münchsdorf took place in 1004. This year, confirmed Henry II. The monastery Niederaltaich the possession of the settlement. Originally called Münichsdorf , the place name is probably derived from the monks of the monastery. It was not until the 19th century that today's name Niedermünchsdorf caught on. The place remained in its possession until the monastery was dissolved in 1803, with the individual goods being given to farmers as fiefs. In the middle of the 19th century, Niedermünchsdorf consisted of 17 houses with a total of 111 inhabitants. The Lahhof wasteland, which emerged from an earlier monastery, and a railway keeper's house on the Regensburg – Passau railway line southwest of the village belonged to it . Lahhof, named after a nearby pond ( Lah ), was originally a Schwaige of the Niederaltaich monastery and was completely rebuilt in 1729. In 1803 the private farm was sold.

On January 1, 1972, the community of Niedermünchsdorf was incorporated into the city of Osterhofen together with eight neighboring communities.

Location and accessibility

Niedermünchsdorf is located about two kilometers northwest of the city of Osterhofen and is directly connected to it by federal highway 8. The Danube flows east a kilometer away.

church

The Catholic branch church St. Hippolyt was built in 1846/47, but also has older parts. There are assumptions that the church tower goes back to a Roman watchtower, since Niedermünchsdorf is on an old Roman road. The church is a subsidiary church of the parish of Aicha and was named after St. Hippolytus of Rome . Until 1261 it belonged as a branch church to the original parish of Schwarzach . Due to dilapidation, extensive renovations took place from 1847 onwards, and it was re-consecrated on August 31, 1850. Today she is assigned to the Osterhofen parish association in the Osterhofen deanery of the Passau diocese .
