Aicha an der Donau (officially: Aicha adDonau ) is a district of the town of Osterhofen in the Deggendorf district .

location

The parish village is located on the Danube about five kilometers north of Osterhofen and must not be confused with Aicha vorm Wald, which is only a few kilometers away .

history

According to Klämpfl, at whose time (1854) the place had 34 houses, the name goes back to its original location in an oak forest. 1149 was by Pope Eugene III. confirmed that the Niederaltaich monastery owned a church in Aicha. As early as 1261, Aicha, previously a branch of Schwarzach near Hengersberg , became its own parish , to which the Thundorf and Münchsdorf branches were subordinate. Thundorf was later incorporated into the Niederaltaich monastery.

Aicha formed an open court mark in the Osterhofen district court. The place was ravaged by the plague from 1634 to the beginning of 1635 and again in 1649, but not quite as bad as the neighboring village of Thundorf, where in 1662 all but three residents were killed by the disease. Back then, the people of Aicha supplied the neighbors with groceries, which were always brought to the same place up to 200 meters before Thundorf and stored there for collection. Later, around 1889, the Quirin Column (also called Plague Column) was built there by local researcher Josef Reithmeier.

At the beginning of the 18th century, a tavern was built in Aicha, where the boatmen stopped. When the Danube ran its course further east, part of the inn was demolished in 1819.

With the parish edict of 1818, the parish Aicha was created. It included the villages of Aicha, Haardorf and Thundorf. In 1821 the villages of Mühlham, Ruckasing, Kuglstatt, Polkasing and Schwaig were added.

Until the great dam was built from 1930 to 1933, Aicha, which was a separate political municipality, was frequently inundated by the Danube. The village was hit by two major floods (1940 and 1954), during which the cattle were evacuated to the surrounding villages and the children were brought to safety with relatives living further away. In 1933 the pump house was built from granite stones that decisively shaped the appearance of Aicha. The Danube dam was later fortified even more and paths or streets were built along them, which not only serve as flood protection, but also serve as the Danube Cycle Path.

On July 14, 1962, Spvgg Aicha was founded by the 1st board member Max Rauscher with players from Aicha, Thundorf, Haardorf and Niedermünchsdorf.

On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Aicha an der Donau was incorporated into the city of Osterhofen as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
