The Isdera Erator GTE is a prototype of a super sports car by the German automobile designer Eberhard Schulz, completed in 1969 .

history

Schulz developed and built the car in a large laundry room and in his front yard in the East Frisian Klostermoor in the late 1960s . At that time, his company operated as Ednilreg Automobil Styling und Prototypenbau - based on the first name of his wife Gerlinde - the internal development code of the project was 004 . A small series or series production was not planned, the Erator GTE is a one-off. From 1983 onwards, after the establishment of ISDERA GmbH in Warmbronn near Leonberg , Schulz manufactured other self-constructed car models such as the Spyder or Imperator .

technology

The two-seater mid-engine - coupe based on a welded tubular steel space frame with glued GRP -Karosserie and French doors . It went through three development stages, so the final version has the addition Mk III under the type designation at the rear end . The first version had a 40 kW flat engine with D-Jetronic injection from the VW 1600 , with which the 760 kg sports car reached a top speed of 175 km / h. By installing the V6 engine with 2.3 l displacement used in the Ford Capri and P7 , the engine output was doubled, increasing the speed to over 220 km / h. Numerous changes were made up to the completion of the last expansion stage, for example the fuel tank was relocated from the left to the right side sill for better weight distribution, and the exterior mirror was attached to the upper windshield frame and supplemented by a small pane in the left wing door. For the installation of the V8 racing engine based on the Mercedes-Benz M 117 with 5 l displacement and dry sump lubrication , the body had to be widened by 100 mm. At the same time, the height of the vehicle could be reduced by 20 mm. The mixture is prepared by four open Weber IDA double carburettors , and the exhaust gases are discharged centrally to the rear via manifolds and a twin -pipe exhaust system. A rear silencer can be installed for use in public traffic . The force is transmitted through the ZF -Fünfgang- gearbox DS-25/2 Synchroma 5 with self-locking differential transmitted to the rear wheels. In this configuration, the Isdera Erator GTE reaches a top speed of 315 km / h and is therefore faster than the Ford GT40 and Lamborghini Miura models built at the same time .

At the stern, the Erator GTE is equipped with a Gurney Flap made of acrylic glass , which can be adjusted in height three ways using screw connections . Further attributes from motorsport are the fire extinguishing system installed in the passenger footwell , full bucket seats with four-point seat belts , an emergency stop switch that can be operated from the outside, and the outwardly curved door skin for the driver's helmet in the roof area.

Trivia

Eberhard Schulz had already dropped out of a mechanical engineering course after completing the preliminary examination . In search of a job, he drove up to Mercedes-Benz and Porsche in Stuttgart with the Erator GTE as a reference . After discussions with Werner Breitschwerdt and Helmuth Bott , Schulz finally signed with Porsche in 1971. He worked there for several years under Anatole Lapine in the concept studio and until 1978 as an engineer in test driving.
