Islands is the seventh studio album by the Canadian folk and country rock group The Band . It was released on March 15, 1977 on the Capitol Records label . Islands was the last studio album that the band recorded with their original line-up. In fact, the group had already given their legendary farewell concert The Last Waltz on Thanksgiving 1976 , which was due to be released on Warner Bros. Records , and only recorded the album to fulfill their ten-album contract with Capitol. After the release of Islands , the band broke up.
Islands was not a huge success in any way. In the US Billboard album charts, the album only reached number 64, and the criticism was not overly enthusiastic. Compared to the rest of their discography, Iceland is considered one of the weakest albums by the Canadians.
The single Georgia on My Mind , a cover version of the Hoagy Carmichael classic from 1930, with which the band wanted to support Jimmy Carter's presidential candidacy, had little commercial success and failed because it entered the chart.
