Islands in the Stream is a song interpreted by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton , written and produced by the Bee Gees .

history

The piece appeared on Roger's album Eyes That See in the Dark in 1983 . The song became a number one hit in the US , Canada , Australia and Austria . In the US, it became their second number one hit for both Rogers and Parton. Rogers had a number one hit with Lady in 1980 and Parton in 1981 with 9 to 5 . The Bee Gees had originally written the song for Marvin Gaye in R&B style, but later decided to rewrite and produce the song for Kenny Rogers.

The song stayed at # 1 in the US for two weeks and became the top hit of 1983. In December 1983, the song was awarded platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for over two million records sold. In 2005, the song was voted the best country music duet of all time in a poll , after which the performers sang the song again live.
