Culture and economy
The plain has a wealth of evidence of ancient history. Significant and worth seeing cities and places are Gorizia (the old Gorizia ), Gradisca (the old princely seat Gradis ), Farra , Mariano , Medea , Romans , Sagrado , Monfalcone , Ronchi dei Legionari , San Canzian and Grado .
The fertile alluvial soils of the Isonzo, which brings with it enormous sediments from the Julian Alps , and the favorable microclimate between the same and the nearby upper Adriatic Sea , a mixed region of Alpine , Mediterranean and Illyrian climates , but right against the cold bora from the east Shielded, makes the area an important wine-growing region , especially for white grapes ( DOC Isonzo ), as well as for other fruit growing .
The local gastronomy, which combines Venetian , Furlan , Slovenian and old Austrian elements, is well known.
