Iván Noel

Iván Noel (* 1968 in Beirut as Yves Noël ) is an independent Spanish film director, producer and composer of French-Australian descent who currently lives in Argentina .

Career

Noel attended Lancing College in England and made his first short film at the age of eleven , for which he worked with an 11mm camera and 200 of his classmates. After graduating in education and film composition at the University of York , he worked as a teacher and performed as a guitar soloist and pianist in concerts. He worked as a photographer in France and won a Newcomer Award from the Salon d'Automne .

In 2006, now based in Andalusia , Noel sold his house to finance his first film En tu ausencia . The film is based on the realism of  Ken Loach  and was shot between  Jerez and the mountains of Cádiz . The no-budget production was realized almost entirely with amateur actors , but after its release in 2008 it made a name for itself at the film festivals in  Vancouver , Palm Springs  and Seattle . In Vancouver, the film was voted fifth in its category, with which it was able to prevail against around 200 other films; The category winner was  Los Girasoles Ciegos . Vanguard International Cinema took over the DVD distribution of the film for North America, in Germany cmv-Laservision released the DVD.

For the next project Noel moved to Lebrija near Seville , where he started working on Brecha in spring 2008 , again without a budget. The film was released in 2009. The next year Noel's third film ¡Primaria! , The school San Francisco de Paula was shot in Seville, the director taught one year. In contrast to the more dramatic content of his previous films, Primaria is a comedy about three elementary school students and their teachers. As in Noel's first two films, Francisco Alfonsín took over the role of the main male character .

After moving to Argentina, Noel brought the next film Vuelve - Come back in 2012 , thanks to sponsors and crowdfunding with an increased budget  .  out, which for the first time contained horror elements. This was followed by the vampire horror comedy Limbo , which was filmed in 2013 and released in October 2015 under the title Children of the Night in the United States and the United Kingdom. Noel next worked on the film Ellos volvieron , to which London-based One Eyed Films acquired the distribution rights in 2014 . The film was released in 2015 under the title The Returned . After that, the director was busy working on the movie Rodillas quemadas ( Burnt Knees ), an adaptation of Henry James ' The Turn of the Screw . The film was released in 2016 under the changed title La tutora ( The Tutor ) via Noel's website as a download and on self-produced Blu-Rays .

Noel also appeared as a director of music videos : In 2012, for example, he published a video for the Icelandic band  Sigur Rós .
