Ivan Král
Ivan Král (born May 12, 1948 in Prague , † February 2, 2020 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) was a Czech bassist , guitarist and composer .
biography
Král grew up in Czechoslovakia , attended grammar school in Prague and played the lead guitar with the band Saze , which entered the top ten of the Czechoslovak radio charts in 1966 with the song Pierot composed by him . Since he and his family moved to New York City that year for professional reasons of their father, who worked as an interpreter for the news agency ČTK and the UN , he only found out about this afterwards.
Despite the existing language barrier, Král quickly found his way into the US punk scene in New York and initially joined the Patti Smith Group as a bass player .
Further stations in his career led him as a studio musician a. a. on Blondie , Iggy Pop , Talking Heads , David Bowie , U2 , the New York Dolls and John Waite .
After the fall of the Iron Curtain , Král returned to Prague in the late autumn of 1989, where he increasingly turned to the production of film music and artists from the local scene.
Private
Král was married to the photographer Cindy Hudson. The couple remained childless. Král died of cancer in the USA in early February 2020 .
