history

The place where it is today goes back to a settlement around the first ironworks in Gästrikland, which was founded there in 1637, but did not exist for long. Before that, a church village Jädherbo or Jederboda was mentioned from the end of the 15th century , which was located in the area of today's Småorter Överbyn and Ytterbyn , a good two kilometers south . In 1839 a new ironworks was opened about five kilometers upstream (northwest) with Kungsfors bruk , which remained in operation until the end of the 19th century.

Administratively, the place initially belonged to the parish Ovansjö socken around the Ovansjö Church, located about 12 km south between today's Sandviken and Storvik. With the growth of the place in the 19th century, a parish of Järbo was detached in 1862, from which the rural community of the same name (landskommun) emerged on January 1, 1863 , which in turn became part of the municipality of Sandviken in 1971.
