Jörg Hildebrandt (born July 17, 1939 in Johannisburg / East Prussia) is a German publisher, anthologist and radio journalist. As a freelance author, he mainly deals with family contemporary witness documentation of German war and post-war history.

origin

Hildebrandt comes from an East Prussian pastor's family; his father Helmut Hildebrandt worked from 1932 to 1939 as a pastor at the Adlig Kessel church near Johannisburgs. Jörg Hildebrandt spent his early childhood in Königsberg , where his father worked at the Ponarther Church from 1939 . In 1945 the Hildebrandts fled via the Fresh Lagoon and the Baltic Sea to the island of Rügen. In 1950 the family moved to East Berlin, at the interface of the Cold War on Bernauer Strasse ; his father was there until the construction of the wall in 1961 pastor at the reconciliation church, which was blown up by the GDR border troops in 1985 .

education and profession

In 1959 Hildebrandt graduated from Diesterweg Oberschule in West Berlin and began studying journalism and history at the Free University of Berlin with an internship in 1961 at the Sender Freies Berlin . After the wall was built, he was forced to move out of the border area; he began a journalistic activity for the East Berlin church press. In 1963 he was drafted into the National People's Army , but refused to serve for political reasons. From November 1964 to October 1966 he did alternative military service in the first year of the newly ordered construction soldier units and was imprisoned for six months for refusal to order (prison in Rostock and in the Ueckermünde penal institution , Berndshof camp). From December 1966 he worked as a lecturer at the Evangelische Verlagsanstalt Ost-Berlin (EVA) , from 1987 to 1990 as deputy editor-in-chief.

Broadcast work

During the fall of the Berlin Wall , Hildebrandt took over the function of a representative in the GDR Radio Council for the newly founded Social Democratic Party of the GDR (SDP). In 1990/91 he was deputy director of the GDR radio and the Berlin radio station . In 1991 he was resigned without notice by the Federal Government's Broadcasting Commissioner, Rudolf Mühlfenzl , after a lengthy dispute over procedural issues relating to the federalization and democratization of the former GDR radio. He then co-founded the Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB). From 1992 to 1994 Hildebrandt and Christoph Singelnstein appeared as the first commentators of the new federal states in the ARD Tagesthemen . From 1997 to 2003 Hildebrandt took on the role of deputy editor-in-chief of the joint ORB / SFB program “ Radio Kultur ” and, from 2001 to 2003, the editor-in-chief of the Potsdam classic culture program “ Radio 3 ” (ORB / NDR).

family

Hildebrandt was married from 1966 until her death in 2001 to Regine Hildebrandt , Brandenburg's Minister of Labor and Social Affairs from 1990 to 1999. In 1950 they met in their parish, lived as neighbors friends until 1961 on the still permeable sector border and experienced them first hand harassed everyday life. The shared experience of the division of Berlin brought them together humanly and ideologically. With Hildebrandt's brother Herbert Hildebrandt , they founded the Berliner Domkantorei in October 1961 , to which they belonged for decades and whose choral activities and social relationships played a decisive role in their lives. There were three children from their marriage: Frauke (* 1969), Jan (* 1971) and Elske (* 1974, SPD member of the Brandenburg State Parliament). Hildebrandt has been retired since 2004. Today he lives in a multigenerational house on Woltersdorfer Flakensee near Berlin .
