Jörgen W. Weibull

Jörgen W. Weibull (born December 3, 1948 ) is a Swedish economist and game theorist.

Weibull studied at the Royal Technical University of Stockholm , where he graduated with a Master of Science degree in 1972 . From 1974 to 1985 he had a research position at the same university and obtained a doctorate in applied mathematics in 1978 . From 1984 on, Weibull worked at Stockholm University , where he took over a professorship for theoretical economics in 1990. Since 1995 he has been Professor of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics . Visiting professorships have taken him to Princeton University , École polytechnique , Boston University and, in the 2007/08 winter semester, to theUniversity of Vienna .

Weibull researches, among other things, in the field of evolutionary game theory . He has also written a highly regarded textbook.

Weibull has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1999 . From 1995 to 2007 he was also a member of the committee that decides on the award of the Nobel Prize in Economics . 2009 awarded him Helsinki School of Economics , the honorary doctorate .
